Procedures for I-20 Application for F-1 student VISA

If you wish to study at JBC on an F-1 visa, you must take at least 18 hours of classes a week. You may combine Japanese and English classes to fulfill the requirements.

The following will be needed to complete your application:

1. Fill out the JBC Application Form to request an I-20 (F-1 visa) form.

2. Obtain an official Financial Statement from your bank stating that you have sufficient funds to enable you to support yourself while in the United States. Below is a chart of the minimum amounts of financial support you must have for a four-month and a one-year stay:

3. Non-refundable Application Fee may be paid by certified check, money order or credit card (if you use credit card, contact us by e-mail):
$200 U.S. from abroad
$100 U.S. from within the USA.

4. Send your (1) JBC Application Form, (2) Financial Statement and (3)Application Fee to JBC Language. After receiving and processing these three items, we will send you an I-20 form.

5. After you receive your I-20 form, send your SEVIS I-20 fee payment ($100 U.S.) to:

      (allow four weeks for processing)

Note: this payment must be made before your visa interview.

6. Bring the I-20 form that you received from JBC along with your I-901 receipt number, original bank statement and passport to your nearby American Embassy or Consulate to apply for an F-1 (student) visa. We recommend that you view the website of the American Embassy for further information on applying for an F-1 visa.

7. Let JBC Language know whether or not your visa was approved.

8. JBC Language does not provide health insurance; therefore we recommend that you obtain traveller's insurance before leaving your country.
